Old Woodstock banners sold to benefit community center. The Woodstock Community Business Association (WCBA), which had underwritten the original Woodstock neighborhood banners hanging from utility poles along Woodstock Boulevard, and who recently replaced them with an updated banner design, donated the old banners in August to the Woodstock Neighborhood Association, which sold them at the second annual Woodstock Family Picnic on August 19th, with the proceeds going towards the ongoing maintenance of the Woodstock Community Center. WCBA meets monthly on the second Tuesday, 7-9 pm, at Country Bill’s, S.E. 45th and Woodstock Boulevard. All are welcome to attend.

New wine shop opens in Sellwood. Two native French friends, Didier Sudre and Frederic Raclot, who share a passion for wine, have combined their expertise and enthusiasm to open the “Vinideus Wine Store” at 8317 S.E. 13th Avenue in Sellwood. The owners say they are introducing a wide selection of exclusive imported wines and hard-to-find Northwest wines. “Our goal is to offer the community something different; special wines that they won't find in the other stores. We will carry a large selection of unknown, but exceptional French wines, hard to find Northwest wines and help our customers discover wines that are emerging or have been unfairly overlooked by most wine distributors and stores”. The new store opened August 19th, and is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am till 8 pm. The telephone number is 503/235-8002.

Co-owner Nancy Taylor reports that the popular Woodstock restaurant, located at the site once occupied by Davidson’s, closed on July 30th after being sold to a group planning to convert it into a bar and grill, most likely called “Westover’s”, with pool tables, and with smoking permitted. No date was given for the reopening.
