A few thousand people could earn a little “extra” money to be part of a new CBS Films’ movie starring Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser coming to Oregon in the next month.
Extras Only of Portland, a local casting company that has worked with several regional films for more than a decade, will host the casting call for “just plain folks” – and a few just plain cars – Sunday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel, Lloyd Center, 1000 N.E. Multnomah St.
Danny Stoltz, casting director of Extras Only, said the film with the working name “the untitled Crowley project,” needed about 2,000 extras. Filming begins in April and could last three months, he said.
Extras could earn $68 a day, with an opportunity for overtime if shooting goes more than 10 hours. They also could be needed for just one or two days, or several days, depending on the scene, Stoltz said.
“It’s a great opportunity for a lot of local people,” he said. “We’re looking for ordinary people, real people.
“The way things are right now, it’s a good way to make a little extra money and see how a movie is made.”
The Crowley project is based on the work of John F. Crowley, a biotech executive and entrepreneur who devoted much of his time to finding a cure for genetic diseases. After two of his children were diagnosed with the debilitating Pompe disease in 1998, Crowley became chief executive officer of the Novazyme biotech startup company in Oklahoma City, which researched treatment for the disease.
Crowley’s work at Novazyme became a Harvard Business School case study and he was profiled in the Wall Street Journal newspaper, where reporter Geeta Anand expanded the story into the book “The Cure: How a Father Raised $100 million – And Bucked the Medical Establishment – In a Quest to Save His Children.”
