“Kasch’s” announces closing.
Kasch’s Nursery has posted signs on its property revealing that it is closing the Sellwood location at S.E. McLoughlin Boulevard and Tacoma Street. Although neighborhood speculation had been that ODOT would buy the property to add ramps to improve traffic access to the planned new TriMet 1,000-vehicle Park-And-Ride structure across the street, a local merchant has informed THE BEE that she has learned that Les Schwab Tires is buying the property instead. She observes, “Although I love Les Schwab, I’m not sure I like the idea of them being there. I can’t help but worry about the traffic impact on Tacoma, especially with the Park-And-Ride going in also.” THE BEE’s guess is that any tire shop traffic there will be insignificant compared to congestion caused by southbound McLoughlin traffic trying to get into the planned Park-and-Ride lot in the mornings, and especially the southbound Park-and-Ride traffic in the afternoon trying to get across the Tacoma overpass onto southbound McLoughlin Boulevard.

The warehouse and Internet sales fulfillment center will continue to be located at the east end of the Ross Island Bridge on S.E. Powell Boulevard. Martin adds, about the structure across from Sellwood Landing which has been surrounded by scaffolding for an extended period of time, “the last tenant has finally moved out of the property at 8500 S.E. 17th. The architectural drawings are done, and a contractor is ready to renovate the building as soon as permits can be obtained. The building owner [the Brummell family] advises that the scaffolding will be removed as soon as possible – they are tired of paying for it.”

“H2H Squared - Home Redesign and Home Staging” has been opened for business by owner/designer and Westmoreland resident Janet McLaughlin. The business, she explains, provides affordable, home value add redesign and staging based on the unique “House to Home and Home to House” philosophy. For those uncertain of what it is, she reveals, “Home Redesign is the enhancement of an interior or exterior space by using what you already own but with a new fresh design approach. Home Staging is the preparation of a home for a sale. In this situation, the goal is the ‘Home to House’ scenario – you want to show the best attributes of the house, condo or loft you are selling for the potential buyer.” For the various services offered, qualifications, and a photo gallery to demonstrate what the service can do, her Internet website is: www.H2HSquared.com. Alternatively, telephone 503/235-3570 or 503/421-7176.
